Custom Covers
Blue Moon Harmonicas offer three different types of Custom Covers to help you dress up your harp.
- Powder Coated Covers
- Electroplated Covers
- Hydrographically Printed Covers
Powder Coating
Powder Coating is applied as a dry powder and then cured under heat to create a beautiful hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. It is available in a wide variety of colors. We offer three colors that are transparent – Candy Red, Candy Blue and Clear Coat Gold – and the stampings on the covers, including the key, are visible. We also offer two colors that are opaque – Gloss White and Gloss Black – where the stampings on the covers are barely distinguishable. Many of the Models, such as the Manji, ProMaster, MS-Blues Harp and MS- Big River, do not have the key stamped on the cover so these covers are universal. Likewise, all of the Gloss White or Gloss Black covers, regardless of the model, we also consider universal – meaning you won’t be able to specifically order a set Gloss Black Golden Melody covers in a specific key. We will provide a set of Key Labels which will enable you to label your harmonica however you want – either directly on the cover or on the comb.
We have an abundance of Special 20 covers in the more popular keys – G, A, Bb, C and D. The Candy Red, Candy Blue and Clear Coat Gold are listed so that you can specify the key that you want. Bear in mind that regardless of the key stamped on the covers, they are all the same size and will fit any key. Therefore, if we are out of a specific key in the color you want, order any key and we will provide you with a set of labels which will enable you to change the key to whatever you want.
Electroplating
Electroplating involves depositing a thin layer of metal onto the surface of the covers using an electric current to cause the desired reaction. We offer Chome Plated, Black-Nickel Plated and Silver-Plated covers in a handful of models – primarily, the Hohner Special 20. As with the transparent powder coated covers described above, the stamping is clearly visible on the plated covers. They are listed so that you can order a specific key, but as with the powder coated covers, if we are out of the key you want, just order another key and we will provide you with labels that will enable you to label the key any way you want.
Hydrogrpahic Printing
Hydrographic Printing is also known as Water Transfer Printing. It is a very cool technology. Virtually any graphic can be printed on hydrographic film – which is water soluble. The film is floated in a tub of water. When it dissolves, only the graphic remains behind. The items to be coated, in our case, harmonica covers, are then dipped in the tub of water and the graphics wrap around the covers. Typically, a base coat of a solid color (black or white) is put on the covers prior to dipping and a clear coat is put on the covers after dipping. As with the opaque powder coating, the graphics are rendered more or less invisible. Consequently, the Hydrographically Printed Covers are offered without specific keys. Labels will be provided with each set, so you can label your harp how you want.
