Sonny Terry Estate Harmonica - Golden Melody #58
Golden Melody #58
Key of Ab
Adam Gussow's notes: "Light wear. Plays well. Excellent"
This Golden Melody is in excellent condition. It does show signs of wear. It has the beginnings of the half-moon semi-circle of tarnish around the 1-5 holes. All the pins (nails) are tight and the harp is very airtight. The back of the comb under the cover plate support posts is a little discolored indicating that the plastic was starting to fracture from the pressure exerted by holding the harp. This is a common occurrence with the Golden Melody and whereas under ordinary circumstances it might be a negative, in this case it is an indication that Sonny played this harp extensively which increases the value.
A Golden Melody box is included with this harp although the original label says Eb instead of Ab and a second sticker is pasted over the E to indicate that the harp inside is an Ab. That said, even though the boxes might have gotten mixed up along the way, this box is entirely consistent with the era when the harp was made.
The harmonica will be shipped in an attractive shadow box display case, a framed 8X10 glossy black and white photo of Sonny and an individually signed Certificate of Authenticity.
