Sonny Terry Estate Harmonica - Golden Melody #85
Golden Melody #85
Key of A
Adam Gussow's notes: "Moderate wear. Excellent"
This Golden Melody show a healthy amount of wear. Being an A-harp, it is one that Sonny might have played "Keys to the Highway" on many occassions. You can see some of that rainbow oil slick kind of discoloration in the covers from both Sonny's lips and his hands. There is a half-moon semi-circle of tarnish around the 1-5 holes indicating a lot of second position work. And extending from the 4-hole to the 9-hole you can see where Sonny's left thumb held the harp. It's pretty neat actually. The comb has a slight ding/chip on the back, probably from being dropped. The harp is airtight and plays excellently. The covers are nice and tight which can often be an issue with Golden Melodys from this era. The original Golden Melodys from the 70's and 80's were assembled with pins (nails) which held both the reed plates and the covers to the comb. Often the pins holding the covers in place on the plastic comb would wiggle loose but that is not the case with this harmonica. This is an excellent selection if what you want is a harp that was clearly played by Sonny but you could still play it yourself if you want to.
This harmonica does not include a box.
The harmonica will be shipped in an attractive shadow box display case, a framed 8X10 glossy black and white photo of Sonny and an individually signed Certificate of Authenticity.
